Off-Center Composition
Using an off-center composition is one of the things that can differentiate you from beginner photographers. The idea behind this rule is simple. Don’t center important elements. Avoid placing the subject in the center of your image. It makes a picture very static. Unless that is your goal, do not center your subject.
- Place your subject a little bit off-center. Add another object of lesser importance to make your image more interesting.
- Leave some space in the direction the subject is moving or looking to make it more dynamic and give a sense of direction.
Final thoughts
Whenever in doubt, use the rule of thirds. It’s a good basic rule which helps you improve your photography. Also it is a bit overused and overrated. But still a good rule to use now and then.
